7. Leirhnjúkur Mountain

An easy trail leads from the parking area around the active area of Leirhnjúkur. Walk through hot spring area and steaming lava to craters formed in the Krafla fires 1975-1984. A hiking trail leads from the hot spring area to the crater Hófur, which is north of Leirhnjúkur. Hófur is a beautiful formed crater dating back to the Mývatn fires, 1725-1729. 1-3 hours.
